5th Anniversary today!

Today, The UX Group completes 5 years of its existence. What an experience it has been! Don't ask how we did it despite the downturn and many odds. We stay focussed and have faith in the fact that open source never fails us. Surely it didn't! Nor did the people who encouraged and motivated us throughout. Thanks a ton.

The developer of C language - Dennis Richie, who was instrumental in Unix development has passed away today. A very private person indeed.

Now comes the review part, as we normally do on every annual day. We got some new clients and working on couple of new projects. By the end of the year, we would be on a different track for sure. We must say that this is one good year for us.

"Formalities" needed by BSNL Broadband Install person

In place of the WiMax internet connection that we had as a backup to our main broadband connection, we took another broadband connection from BSNL. Everything was set up quickly on Linux yesterday. Then the sudden surprise before they are about to leave! -  the assitant tech person mentioned "formalities" (meaning some tip or bribe, whatever you may call it)!?! We flatly denied saying that we do not want to make them beggers. Without saying a word, he left.  While some top level BSNL officials bleed it by leaking its strategies and latest offers to its competitors beforehand, the other side is maligning its name with such cheap attitude and habits.

When was the last time you thanked your SysAdmin?

SysAdmin day is celebrated on the last friday of July every year around the world. With this year's SysAdmin Appreciation Day just a week away, we wonder how much importance companies around us give to the overworked and (mostly) underpaid SysAdmins! Do companies still think that they are a necessary overhead? Do they still try in vain to figure out how to calculate their effort into monetary gains for the company? Are they respected as much as they should have been? Or, are they also dragged into the nasty politics that is typical of Indian companies? Were they ever provided with enough system resources they needed?

Well, we feel that more and more companies in India started looking at SysAdmins as valuable assets to their companies than they were a few years ago.

As a coworker, when was the last time you thanked your SysAdmin? Not that they expect someone to appreciate them, but still, they do need a pat for all the good work they do - silently.

As a company or coworker,  feel free to appreciate your system admin(s) at least on the SysAdmin Day on coming friday (July 30, 2010).

A funny experience with DTDC Couriers

The delivery boy from DTDC couriers says that they can deliver our consignments only between 1 and 2PM. Just to pick on us, they have sent one of our consignments back to the sender instead of working it out with us on the best time of delivery. It seems that these service-motive souls try to teach us something! Requesting all our clients not to send us any communication through these great courier company as we are not at their level of professionalism as of today :-) We do not want just some kind of service - we want top-notch service.

Still at work

2010 has come already, while we are busy announcing our new hosting offer (2x Hosting) and modifying the hosting server's firewall wrapper (which is causing unnecessary extra load). Fine, let's hope for the better and let's hope the decision makers in our state and country talk and act sensibly, rather than act like comedians. We have had enough entertainment already, watching their flawed theories and actions ;-) We wonder where we are heading by using words like "high command" in a democratic setup!

3rd Anniversary and another year passes by

We have completed three years of our existence on Oct 13th, 2009. We thought the business would fare well this year, but from Jan till Dec, the whole year, we have seen the worst performance in our segment, and so does our business. However, this has proved to be an excellent time to figure out who our real friends are!

Some of the web domains which we thought of developing and popularizing have expired and we have seen them go out of our hands. Our hosting service was not available for a full day due to our delayed payment, something that we have never imagined. We have seen our employees leave (or asked to leave) for various reasons. Today, as we complete three years, the owner is the sole employee of the company. Still, we have no regrets and we are enjoying this lean phase as well. The best part is that we have sought help from our friends, partners and well-wishers and they did exceed our expectations. We are grateful to all of them for giving us a helping hand at the need of the hour.

It doesn't matter in which corner of the world we are in or how big we are; all that matters is what we do and how we do it. In these three years, we caught the attention of some good companies and individuals around the world, not because of our list of clientele, turnover or some unique product. It is all because of our openness and agility coupled with tech-savviness, quality-consciousness and technical strengths. So, with a great year ahead, we are poised to grow and serve more clients in the coming months. Again, we thank everyone who stood by us all these years.
